What exactly is Oral Sedation?

The term “dental sedation” refers to a variety of techniques used to make patients more at ease during dental procedures. Our dentists can determine if you require dental sedation.

Our Pasadena, Texas dental office does everything possible to help patients feel tranquil and at ease during dental appointments. We offer three different sedation options:

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
One inhales nitrous oxide through a mask placed over the mouth and nostrils. The medication helps to calm patients despite their ability to remain conscious and communicate. Nitrous oxide may reduce anxiety, increase pain threshold, and speed up the passage of time.

Oral Sedation
Dr. Nugent can prescribe oral sedatives in either tablet or liquid form. This sedative is administered orally prior to the dental appointment. Oral sedation permits you to remain conscious during the procedure, but produces a calming effect that will significantly soothe you.

IV Sedation
Medications can be administered directly into the bloodstream through a vein and produce the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. Our dental staff will connect you to a monitor so that your dentist can monitor your vital signs throughout the procedure.

You no longer have to live with fear, anxiety or stress when you visit the dentist. Dr. Nugent is a sedation dentist that can help you get quality dental care. Call our office to see how sedation dentistry can work for you.
