Pasadena Texas Dental Sedation:
The prospect of visiting the dentist can leave people in great despair and anxiety. Dr. Nugent understands and acknowledges fear that is generated visiting the dentist. Dr. Nugent uses a very gentle approach with all patients. Dr. Nugent thoroughly explains treatment options to help lessen any unnecessary anxiety. If patients feel they need extra help to relax then Dr. Nugent can utilize different sedation techniques.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) produces euphoria when inhaled. You wear a small mask over your nose and will breathe through the mask during treatment. Patient’s fears melt away and pleasant thoughts become abundant. Once the dental procedure is done, Dr. Nugent will turn the gas on to 100% oxygen to flush the nitrous oxide out of the patient’s body. Then the mask is removed and the patient is no longer under any sedation. The patient can drive immediately and return to work. Nitrous oxide is a great from of mild sedation that can significantly improve dental visits for the frightened dental patient.
Oral Conscious Sedation
This sedation method involves coming to Dr. Nugent’s office and taking a small pill. The lights will be dimmed and the patients will rest comfortably in the reclined dental chair. Once the oral sedation medication is working Dr. Nugent will begin dental treatment. Patients are very drowsy and tired. Many patients report they “slept through the procedure”. Oral conscious sedation allows patients to rest peacefully while Dr. Nugent performs the necessary dental procedure. Patients will need someone to drive them home.
Combined Dental Sedation Techniques
Dr. Nugent has special training and is licensed by the State of Texas to administer combined dental sedation medication. Combined dental sedation is simply the use of nitrous oxide with oral sedation pills. This allows for maximum comfort and relaxation. During the sedation the patient’s vital signs (blood pressure, pulse and blood oxygen saturation) will be closely watched with advanced monitoring equipment.
Dr. Nugent recommends sedation dentistry if you:
