Pasadena, Texas Dentist: Professional Teeth Cleanings

  1. The removal of Calculus (tartar): Calculus is a form of hardened dental plaque. It is caused by the continual accumulation of minerals from saliva on plaque on the teeth. Its rough surface provides an ideal medium for further plaque formation, threatening the health of the gum tissue.

  2. The removal of Dental Plaque: Dental plaque is comprised of colonies of bacteria and other microorganisms mixed with bacteria by-products, dead cells and food residuals. Not removing tooth plaque bacteria from the mouth regularly, can lead to tooth decay and dental caries (cavities) or periodontal problems (such as gingivitis and periodontitis). The micro organisms of dental plaque are all naturally present in the oral cavity, and are normally harmless.

  3. Teeth polishing: The removal of stain and plaque.

  4. Flossing of all Teeth: Flossing is the only way to clean between teeth.

Periodontal Disease is the leading cause of tooth loss.

Periodontal Disease (gum disease) is when your gum tissue pulls away from your teeth and creates pockets that hold bacteria and calculus. Periodontal disease causes loss of gum tissue and bone. If your periodontal (gum) tissue evaluation reveals you have periodontal disease then Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleanings) will be recommended. Scaling and Root Planing is a special type of treatment that goes deeper BELOW the gum line to remove bacteria, plaque, calculus, contaminated debris, pus, and to smooth the surfaces of the tooth to prevent calculus from reforming. The goal is to remove the noxious stimuli, bacteria and bacterial toxins so that the gum tissue can reattach to the tooth eliminating the pockets for bacteria to hide.

“The mouth is the doorway to the body, rather than a separate organ, and is the entry point for bacteria to enter the bloodstream through the gums.”  Michael Nugent DDS

Also, an advanced Laser is used to help eliminate bacteria around the teeth. Your hygienists will place a laser into the gum tissue pocket around your tooth. Then the Hygienist will use a foot pedal to run on the laser energy. The laser is at a specific wavelength that seeks out bacteria and destroys the bacteria. The advanced laser treatment is quick and painless and leads to better overall gum tissue health.

Furthermore, we use Oraqix for or NO NEEDLE ANESTHESIA for deep cleanings. On severe cases of periodontal disease Dr. Nugent will use local anesthesia for patient comfort.

The ultimate success of any periodontal treatment is a cooperative partnership between the patient and the dental staff. Alone, neither can accomplish this goal.

If you could actually see the inflammation and infection in the mouths of those with active Periodontal Disease you wouldn’t wait two seconds to go to the dentist and beg for a solution….
