Pasadena Texas Kids Dentist:
Our office has tremendous luck with bringing in little ones to watch mom, dad, or an older sibling. The little one wants to be a “big kid” and come to the dentist too. We let the child ride up and down in the chair. Usually by age three the child can sit still enough for their dental exam.
Parents can make first dental visits a pleasant and fun experience. The parents can talk about how super silly Dr. Nugent is and that Dr. Nugent is going to count your teeth. Children are a blank slate. Going to the dentist has no meaning to them. Children whose parents presenting dentistry as fun and exciting most often do great at their first dental visits. Parents are encouraged accompany their child to the exam rooms. Having a parent creates a safe and comfortable environment. After the dental exam and cleaning the kids get to pick a toy out of the treasure chest! Children at our office love and want to come back to the dentist to get their teeth cleaned. Making your children comfortable, safe and relaxed is our goal.
Your child’s first visit is normally a routine exam and cleaning. The treatment depends on your child’s personality, ability to follow directions while in the dental chair, comfort level and any potential dental issues that may be present. If the child is able and willing then X-rays will be taken at the first visit. If not then X-rays will be taken at the next dental visit. Dr. Nugent wants to make the initial dental visit as easy and stress free as possible. Children who like going to the dentist grow up to be anxiety-free dental patients and have awesome beautiful smiles to prove it.
Dental Tooth Sealants
Dental sealants are a white resin that is placed in the groves of the back teeth. The sealants eliminate the cracks where bacteria can hide. Thus, tooth decay decreases dramatically. Sealants are perfect for young children with new adult teeth because they are still learning how to practice excellent dental care.
Application of dental sealants is very easy. First, the child’s teeth are cleaned and then the resin is painted into the cracks and groves of the teeth. Then a special curing light is used to activate the sealant. The sealant prevents decay by eliminate a major bacteria hiding spot.
