This will help to alleviate anxiety and discomfort in a dental situation that may otherwise bother the patient. An amazing aspect of nitrous oxide is that these sedative and anti-anxiety properties will dissapear quickly once the gas is taken of the patient. Therefore, one can drive adn return to work/school after nitrous oxide. There is no residual sedative properties.

What To Expect from Nitrous Oxide?

Nitrous Oxide provides multiple benefits to patients due to its temporary effects on the central nervous system. First, patients will experience an anti-anxiety effect. Then patients experience a euphoric effect, improving their mood and even making them giddy (this is where the term Laughing Gas came from ) Nitrous Oxide also provides a small analgesic effect, which partially numbs pain. This characteristic makes it awesome for reducing the pain from an injection of local anesthesia.

Is Nitrous Oxide Safe?

Yes, Nitrous Oxide is the safest drug used in dentistry. The most common side effect, even though it is very rare, is nausea. Emotionally, most people do great with laughing gas. Patients who are particularly sensitive to Nitrous Oxide may feel overwhelmed by its effects.  Laughing may turn to crying or to dizziness.
