Dental Implant Anatomy
A dental implant is a titanium cylinder that is placed into the jawbone. The dental implant fuses to the jawbone. Once the implant is solidly anchored into the jawbone it can be restored to create a new tooth that looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth.
There are three parts to a dental implant:
- Implant – this is the titanium cylinder that is placed into the jawbone
- Abutment – is the foundation for the porcelain crown and is screwed into the dental implant.
- Crown – is the porcelain tooth shaped piece that mimics the appearance of a natural tooth.
Dental Implants are the standard of care when replacing missing teeth. In other words, dental implants are the best way to replace missing teeth. If you are missing teeth, come see why Dr. Nugent is a leader in dental implant therapy.
