Tooth Pain Pasadena Texas:
Tooth pain can be caused by several different reasons. The most common reason is a deep cavity. Teeth can be tricky! There is a nerve in the middle of your tooth, and it is surrounded by two substances called dentin (the inside part of the tooth), and enamel (the part you see when you smile). These are the hardest substances in your body, even harder than your bones! It takes a while for a cavity to eat through your tooth, and the nerve is protected by the dentin. Then, all of a sudden, BOOM! The cavity gets close to the nerve and your tooth suddenly hurts like crazy. That’s why it’s important to get a cavity fixed BEFORE it hurts.
So, what do we do for a hurting tooth? Well, that nerve I spoke about is the problem. It’s hurting because it’s dying. So, it needs to be removed to stop the pain and prevent an infection. We do this in one of two ways:
Remove the nerve from the tooth and KEEP THE TOOTH. This is known as a root canal.
Remove the tooth and the nerve together. This is an extraction. You LOSE THE TOOTH, but it can be replaced.
If the tooth has to be replaced, usually the best way to do so is with a dental implant.
Almost always dental problems start off as small problems that grow. If you have not been to the dentist in awhile, come see why our office has been voted Best Pasadena Texas Dental Office multiple times. Come visit us at 3421 Burke Rd STE A, Pasadena, Texas 77504.
