Pasadena Texas Children Dentist
1. Choose Carefully. Not all General Dentists accept children as patients. Dr. Nugent and our Hygienists are both experienced and comfortable treating children. We take the time to make them comfortable with treatment, have toys and books in the waiting area and even give out a special prize after their visit.
2. Start Early. If at all possible, don’t wait until your child has a tooth problem before bringing them to the office. We usually suggest that children have a full cleaning and check up around the age three, but we encourage you to get them familiar with our office long before their first visit. You can bring them in to see you or an older relaxed child get a cleaning or we can schedule a special orientation visit with the hygienist at no charge. At the orientation your child will meet the Hygienists and Dr. Nugent, go for a ride in the chair, see the dental instruments and learn what to expect before they come in for their first cleaning.
3. Talk Positive. Tell your child, “The Hygienist & Dr. Nugent just want to see how pretty your teeth are.” or “They just want to check to see what a good job you do with brushing.” instead of “Don’t be scared.” Many adults are anxious about the dentist, but try not to communicate that to your child. The more positive statements about going to the dentist the better.
If you have any questions about when your child is ready for the dentist, or how to help them get off to a good start, feel free to call. Remember, patients from Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Friendswood, League City and Pearland trust their children’s dental care to Dr. Nugent because of his exceptional skills and bed side manner.
