Pasadena Texas General Dentist Michael Nugent talks about Crowns.
Crowns (caps) are needed when a large amount of tooth structure is missing. The crown acts like a helmet to entirely cover the tooth and provide strength to the tooth.
There are two ways to make a crown for a patient.
1. Dr. Nugent prepares the tooth to receive the crown. Then an impression material is placed in the mouth for 5 minutes. A temporary crown is made while the impression is sent to a dental lab. The patient comes back in two to three weeks to receive their porcelain crown.
2, Dr. Nugent prepares the tooth for a crown. Then takes a digital impression using an advanced camera system. Dr. Nugent designs the your crown on a computer and then makes your crown in a advanced 3-d milling chamber. The crown is then fitted and prepared to be cemented into the mouth. Everything is done in one visit.
