Pasadena Texas General Dentist Michael Nugent talks about Crowns.
Do I need a Dental Crown?
Crowns (caps) are needed when a large amount of tooth structure is missing. The crown acts like a helmet to entirely cover the tooth and provide strength to the tooth.
In addition to providing long-lasting protection, dental crowns are recommended for treating fractured or damaged teeth and for securing a dental bridge. Additionally, crowns are used to conceal discolored or misshapen teeth.
Are you asking yourself, “Do I need crowns?” If so, here are some of the most common reasons why you may need a crown:
- Protecting & restoring severely broken down teeth
- To protect a tooth after a Root Canal
- To cover a cracked or fractured tooth
- Covering a discolored tooth
- Restore a dental implant
- To create a dental bridge
- Closing gaps in teeth
There are two ways to make a crown for a patient.
1. Dr. Nugent prepares the tooth to receive the crown. Then an impression material is placed in the mouth for 5 minutes. A temporary crown is made while the impression is sent to a dental lab. The patient comes back in two to three weeks to receive their porcelain crown.
2, Dr. Nugent prepares the tooth for a crown. Then takes a digital impression using an advanced camera system. Dr. Nugent designs the your crown on a computer and then makes your crown in a advanced 3-d milling chamber. The crown is then fitted and prepared to be cemented into the mouth. Everything is done in one visit.
What is a CEREC crown?
The acronym CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic. It is a revolutionary new technique for constructing dental restorations. CEREC involves using new technology and computer software to design dental restorations on the same day for patients in Las Vegas.
The office of Michael Nugent DDS uses this cutting-edge CEREC equipment to ensure that patients do not have to wait weeks for their crown. It is important to note that CEREC solutions contain no metal, so they are cosmetic and look great in the mouth. Plus, the material is milled from a solid piece of porcelain so they are very strong.
