Teeth whitening (teeth bleaching) is one of the most popular dental cosmetic procedures available. Teeth bleaching is an easy, simple and non-invasive way to make teeth whiter. Teeth are porous and accumulate stain. Teeth whitening removes this stain and restores the teeth to their white natural state.
Stained and discolored teeth is the number one cosmetic concern of patients. Coffee, tea, coke, and smoking are major contributors to stained teeth. However, anything that will stain a white t-shirt can stain teeth. Other reasons for stained teeth include:
- Normal wear of the outer tooth layer.
- Stained teeth medications (tetracycline, etc.).
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
Dr. Nugent what does tooth whitening involve?
Take home professionally prepared teeth whitening kits requires two visits. The first appointment is where detailed impressions of your teeth will be taken. Then a lab will utilize these impression to create custom bleaching trays.
The second appointment will consist of you trying in your bleaching trays. Then Dr. Nugent will explain the teeth bleaching procedure and give you a short demonstration. The initial phase of teeth bleaching will take 10 to 20 minutes a day for about 10 days. This initial phase is removing all the stain that has built up during the life of the tooth. Once or twice a year patients will “touch up” their teeth. This is super quick and easy as the “touch up” is just removing the stain that has accumulated after the patent stopped bleaching.
Laser Whitening or ZOOM one hour whitening works. However, Dr. Nugent does not offer this option at his office. After the Laser one hour whitening patients teeth are extremely sensitive and painful. Furthermore, laser whitening patients must still use custom bleaching trays in order to remove all of the stain. Laser Whitening is very expensive and yields no greater results over at home custom bleaching trays.

Dr. Nugent hears stories about patient being too embarrassed to smile because of crooked, chipped, discolored or broken teeth. Dr. Nugent can eliminate this embarrassment by using porcelain veneers to create a beautiful, vibrant and radiant smile.
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are created to change the shape, size and color of teeth. The porcelain veneers are bonded onto the teeth and a new smile is born. Dr. Nugent will analyze the size and shape of your teeth, lips, gums and mouth. Then Dr. Nugent works with an American dental lab to design porcelain veneers that create an amazing smile.
