Deer Park, Pasadena Texas Dentist:
Teeth are extremely valuable. In fact, your mouth’s monetary value is worth more than $100,000 (and that is on the low side). The best way to replace a lost tooth is with a dental implant. A completed implant and crown cost between 4,000 and 5,000 dollars. People average 28 teeth (not counting wisdom teeth) in order to smile, talk and chew well. It is crazy NOT to protect such a valuable asset.
Fact: Clean teeth and gums do not get decay or gum disease.
Teeth are designed to last a lifetime. Steps to help ensure great dental health include:
- Teeth are cleaned correctly at least twice a day. (Three times is better)
- You use an electric toothbrush.
- You brush your teeth for two minutes.
- Don’t cover teeth with sugar and soda on a daily basis.
- Have teeth lined up correctly for good chewing and cleaning.
- You floss daily.
- You use toothpaste with fluoride in it.
- You have regular dental visits and professional cleanings.
- You use an anti-bacterial mouth rinse.
- You make outstanding dental health a priority.
Teeth are different from the rest of your body. You can follow your Medical Doctor’s advice on prevention of diseases like heart disease, diabetes and cancer. This will improve your odds in preventing these diseases. Unfortunately, there are still no guarantees.
If you start with healthy teeth and gums and keep them 100% clean, then decay and gum disease will not occur.
It is impossible to have decay with clean teeth because there is no biofilm.
Biofilm (dental plaque) is a matrix of bacteria that interlink to form a protective, slick, slimy film. The bacteria are overlapped and form a protective layer. This layer protects the colony of bacteria underneath. Think of a bacteria quilt that is over 10,000 layers thick. Biofilm is a sticky, messy mass of dental nastiness. The mass of different bacteria in dental plaque is responsible for dental decay and gum disease. Calcium from saliva will implant in this biofilm and cause the bacteria quilt to become rock hard. This new cement like substance is calculus (tartar). Once tartar forms the only way to get it off is to have a professional teeth cleaning.
Bacterial interactions and growth formations is complicated, so I am going to make it easy and simple: No biofilm equals no decay and no gum disease. These two infection processes cannot start without the presence of bacterial biofilm.
Eliminating Biofilm:
Biofilm/plaque forms constantly on the teeth and gums, even when you do not eat. So if you want to be 100 percent disease free, you will want to clean teeth and gums at least twice a day, if not more.
My team and I have found that using a combination of an electric toothbrush (Sonicare or Oral B) toothbrush, dental floss and Listerine is an awesome dental regimen. Add in a water pick and you will be doing amazing!
The electric toothbrush destroys the biofilm with its rapid toothbrush bristle movements. Flossing removes food debris and plaque in between the teeth. If you are not flossing, you are not effectively cleaning 40 percent of all your teeth.
